Hair and the Double Crown. What does it all mean?

It's a serious issue. Seriously. Does everyone know what a double crown is? I stole borrowed this definition from someone else: "Picture not one, but two circular swirls at the crown of your head — going in opposite directions". It's where the hair naturally parts and if you have two crowns well hair styling is impossible and you end up with a bit sticking up in the middle (a la Alfalfa).

Both my boys have double crowns...I rarely do anything to their hair because it just ends up in a mess! I can't comb it down either way! Should be interesting as they grow older...

I have heard many old wives tales theories about what a double crown means but was just wondering if anyone else had anything to add (just a bit of fun, not that I put much stock in this). So here are the theories:

1. They will have more than one wife. (I surely hope not!)

2. They will be very naughty. (So far this one seems to be leading the way lol)

3. They will be lucky in money matters. (I hope so...maybe they'll provide for us in our retirement)

4. They will travel a great deal. (As long as they return safe and sound this one is fine by me)

5. The next child will be a boy. (Well correct for Thomas as he was followed by Daniel...but we have not been game to test the theory further)

6. Child will be followed by twins. (Obviously wrong as there is only one of Daniel!)

7. They will be very bright. (Jury still out on this one)

I would have provided a photo of a double crown, but I couldn't find an attractive picture on Google. I would have taken a photo of the back of my boy's heads but they went to bed early...

  1. My eldest son has that - we call it a double cowlick here (no idea why!). Next child was a girl, no twins.

    Solution is to keep the hair fairly short, military-style. If it's a girl, keep it long.

    1. Yeah I am with you on this.

      I'm a 20 year old male with a double crown, it is definitely easier to have it cut short if your a male.

    2. Same! I've had it at no more than 3 for years, but today it was around that length and annoying me by sticking up already so I had to cut it down to a 1!

    3. Im 21 year old male and i had long hair untill i was 14, like down to my bottom long, had dread locks and at 15 finally cut it short, you can style it just make sure your hair is damp and use hair spray to give it a firm hold. But beyond that i havnt had issues

    4. I'm a guy with a double crown and i'd say i'm very bright ;) (top 3 in my graduating class :D) oh and i had a brother born after me, and he has a twin sister who came out a minute later :)

  2. And here I was thinking double crown was something along the lines of "Aaaaand the winner of this year's double crown is..... Ms. BURKINA FASO!" or some such. Heh.

    I think my brother's got a double crown. His hair looks like a crow's nest most of the time. Although that could be because of his avulsion to the hair brush.

  3. my eldest (though adopted) has adouble crown and he was later followed by twins LOL,

    * not married yet
    * naughty - yes
    * he spends all of ours !
    * travels a lot - yes runs away from me and has us taxi him everywhere else
    * yes twins
    * not academically but the boy is very smart at trying to outwit me (I am smarter still)

  4. Hi Cathy,
    the cups are easy - the base are tic-toc biscuits - then (using icing) I stuck the marshmellows to them and again using icing sugar put the chocolate buttons that have sprinkles on them on top (you could use those swirly caramel buttons too) and then finally I cut musk life-savers in half and used the icing to stick them on as handles! fun and easy and they get plenty of comments. Thanks for visiting my blog again! I love catching up on yours and your boys are just diving! Jen, Graham and Ebony - Mt. Beauty, Victoria

  6. Wow ~ Cathy our darling Ashton has a double crown! I didn't know what this term meant until I had him he he ;). I really hope 3,4,7 is true!!!

    I agree I do very little to Ashton's hair ~ maybe try n pat down a lil with some water. We all have a chuckle of a morning when he wakes or smiles with this piece of hair blowing in the breeze like a peacock lol & he is none the wiser.

    Sure it means they r very 'special' certainly unique he he.

    Sweetdreams Ang ;)

  9. Both my kids have the double crown. Inherited from their bad hair daddy. Not me, I have gorgeous locks and just the one crown. Boy child was first and girl child - singleton was second.
    We have travelled a lot already, so that bit is true (currently in India). Both bright (I could be biased). Hope the money thing is true. The naughty thing is. And the wife thing, heaven help me if I have to deal with more than one daughter in law.

  10. Both my boys have double crowns. I hope much of what you say is true, but really I think it just means their hair sticks up. I find the only way to deal with it is to keep it longer on top so that that the weight of the hair helps it lie down. Or just learn to live with the spikey effect...

  12. My son who is 2 years old has a double crown. My family has the superstition that people with Double crowns have really bad tempers and are quick to anger. So far...its looking true

  13. I have a triple crown. It's a nightmare in adulthood. Means haircuts are nearly impossible to get right. I've opted to don the old mohawk look and have the sides shaved past the 2 corner crowns. Only way I can look like a human in the mornings.

    My first born son has the double swirls. He's a handful, very smart, an we had boy/girl twins next...so I think there's truth to some of this.

  16. My son has the double crown and he is a twin! The ruling is that he as the twin gene that passes down to his daughter so his daugher will have twins. Basically, my son will be a grandfather to twins!!

  17. I have a double hair crown and I am told this is a feature during my Mother's pregnancy and my hair sticks up at the crowns, when cut short, also I have a double front hair feature, where my hair sticks up either side of my head ,after a shortish hair cut.
    All the items mentioned in Cathy's article have come true, other than twins, I am male and have 3 children , none of whom have double crowns. My Mother used to say it's the sign of a genius, alas this is definitely not true, in my case.

  19. Enjoyed reading everyone's comments so funny. I am a mother that has two crowns and a daughter and son that have the same.

    No twins in either families.
    Genius in our own way. (Don't leave home until you can afford to)
    (Live life to the fullest anyway you can) (Leave having children till later)
    HAIR: Girl (Long or Bob) Boy (Number 1 or 2)

    I remember when I was younger that I wanted to do somethings that the other kids could do. But wasn't allowed to because it was to dangerous or something. But the one thing I couldn't understand was how can you know if I haven't even tried it. All I wanted was someone to teach me how to do it and why was it dangerous. Once I watched my father cutting up meat and I wanted a go. So he got me to cut down the ribs. Taught me about knives, cleavers etc and to keep hands at safe distance and everything else. Loved it so much. Never touched another until it came to cutting up meat with Dad. LOL. Go Figure.

  20. Oh that's scary. I have 6 children and my last, a girl, has the double. Thing is I'm pregnant with No 7 and our last ( hopefully lol ) and I'm not up for twins. As I'm 34 I've been told that twins don't have to run in the families and that woman over their 30s chances of twins increase by 40%. Oh my I hope the twin theory is wrong. Yikes!!! Lol. She is definitely a smart one :)

    I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old
